Arriving outside the smoke and dust surprised them as they left Charmalina’s building. Dark smoke came from the building that was no more and the dust from the building was slowly making its way to the ground. The combined effects made the morning light dull and not very bright. Eru and Charmalina made their way closer to the building. It was not a pretty sight. It was a professional job though, all the other buildings around were left untouched and unharmed. Not many people inside the building could have survived.
Sirens could be heard getting closer and closer. “Time to go,” Charmalina said to Eru.
“Back to your place? Or where to? What caused this explosion?” Eru was still confused.
“No need to go back to my place, this is the clue that we needed.”
Eru looked at her questioningly.
“This explosion was done by a professional. Most likely still with the government or close government ties.” She explained to him.
“So where are we going?”
“To the capital city. We should be able to find out more information there and stay out of trouble from here. They will be trying to blame someone for this if they don’t already have someone.”
Eru understood now. The local police would be questioning everyone and anyone who was out of place would most likely end up in jail for awhile. People started coming out on the streets. Most of them weren’t normal citizens. They were tough and looking for a fight. They looked like hired goons. Charmalina saw this too and was examining the situation.
Guys were closing in around them and others that were present at the scene. The cops were almost here now and they would arrive just in time to see a riot. What a coincidence. Eru saw a wall he could probably jump and climb over in a dead end alley. He motioned Charmalina to look over there and she nodded back at him.
There were four guys covering their path to the alley then a short sprint through the alley and a big jump to get to the wall. The first guy punched at Eru. Eru blocked it, slammed the attacker’s head backwards and then passed by the guy’s body and smashed him onto the pavement. Eru thought they guy was just winded and disoriented. Good enough for now.
Charmalina launched a kick at another goon. Landing it straight on his chest the guy stumbled back falling over top his buddy behind him. Two down, two to go; If they were quick. Other goons would try and get them if not. The police were basically there. Getting out of their cars a safe distance away, Eru and Charmalina would only have a minute to get out of sight.
Eru and Charmalina punched their nearby goons respectively. They were slightly blocked but still landed a blow. Eru sent a knee to the stomach then an elbow to the top of the shoulder sending his attacker to ground writhing in pain. Charmalina got around the attacker and began to choke him out. With her arms tightly around his neck he passed out in a few seconds.
They sprinted to the alley entrance. Spotlights could be heard coming on in the distance as the police turned them on to get a better view and see through the smoke and dust. Their lungs burned as they took in deep breaths of the dirty air. They saw the wall coming it was about 8 feet tall. Taking a big jump as they approached the wall they easily managed to grab the ledge and pull themselves up and over it.
With a soft thud they landed on their feet and crouched down to catch their breath. They couldn’t stay here long. They couldn’t go back to Charmalina’s as they were on the wrong side of the explosion to get back to Charmalina’s apartment without passing through the police.
“How do you think we should get to the capital city?” Eru asked.
“Follow me to a nearby market, it should be busy by now and will hide us for a bit. It will give us the chance to prepare for the trip ahead.”
Hmm, this is interesting. It just gets better and better!
